Latin Trends End of the Summer Party!

The summer is officially gone! Sadly for me :( because now comes a season that I hated last year. I really hope this one gets better, despite all the predictions.

Anyways, if you can recall, among the fun activities I got to do this past summer was to work as a Public Relations assistant in the red carpet of the Latin Trends End of The Summer Party. I’m not going back to the details of what the party is about, since I already explained it on a previous post. Now, I’m just going to share the fun part.

It was a fun experience and also enriching for my career. It turned out to be less difficult than I expected, since I was a little concerned because I didn’t know all the guests that were meant to appear on the red carpet and my job was to check them in and lead them to the photographers in an organized way.

After the red carpet, our job was done and we got to enjoy the party! I felt so comfortable surrounded by Latin music, gosh I miss to go dancing!

Also got to meet some really cool people like Jessica Pimentel and Laura Gómez, who are now part of the cast of Orange Is TheNew Black. A week later I ran into Laura on New York Fashion Week and she was equally adorable.

Also met the Dominican model Angelica Guillen, so beautiful and humble. She got to be featured in Project Runway, and I bet we will be hearing more from her.

Actor E.J. Bonilla was also very fun. By the time he got to the party, the red carpet was at very crowed and he behaved with such gallantry, making fun out of the moment.

Of course there was also Gilberto Santa Rosa, and not for nothing he’s called “The Gentleman of Salsa”. He took the time to greet everyone around the red carpet personally, including Jatna and I to whom he shook hands. My mom would’ve died of the emotion!

The party was such a nice gathering to celebrate the success of many talented latinos who are becoming game changers in the United States, but also all around the world.

¡El verano oficialmente se fue! Tristemente para mí porque ahora se acerca una estación que odié el año pasado. Espero que este sea mejor, a pesar de todos los pronósticos.

Si recuerdan, entre las cosas divertidas que pude hacer este pasado verano fue trabajar como asistente de Relaciones Públicas en la alfombra roja de la fiesta Latin Trends End of The Summer Party. No les volveré a contar los detalles de qué se trata la fiesta, porque ya lo hice en un post previo. Ahora, sólo quiero compartir con ustedes la parte divertida.

Fue una experiencia muy divertida y al mismo tiempo enriquecedora para mi carrera. Resultó ser menos difícil de lo que esperaba, ya que me preocupaba un poco no conocer los nombres de la mayoría de los invitados a aparecer en la alfombra roja y mi trabajo era guiarlos hacia los fotógrafos de una manera organizada.

Luego de la alfombra, nuestro trabajo había terminado y ¡pudimos disfrutar de la fiesta! Me sentí tan cómoda rodeada de música latina, ¡Dios extraño tanto salir a bailar!

Además tuve la oportunidad de conocer gente muy chula, como las actrices Jessica Pimentel y Laura Gómez, que ahora son parte del elenco de la serie Orange is the New Black. Una semana después, me encontré a Laura en la Semana de la Moda de NY y fue igualmente adorable.

También conocí a la modelo dominicana Angélica Guillén, bellísima y humilde. Ha sido modelo para el programa Project Runway y estoy segura que estaremos escuchando más de ella.

El actor E.J. Bonilla fue muy divertido. Cuando llegó a la fiesta, la alfombra roja estaba súper llena de personas esperando y él se portó muy galante, haciendo bromas sobre la situación.

Por supuesto, no puedo dejar de mencionar a Gilberto Santa Rosa, quien no en vano es llamado “El Caballero de la Salsa”. Se tomó el tiempo para saludar personalmente a todos los que estaban a su alrededor en la alfombra, incluyendo a Jatna y a mí, a quienes dio la mano. ¡Mi mamá se hubiera muerto de la emoción!

La fiesta fue una muy linda reunión para celebrar el éxito de muchos latinos talentosos que se han convertido en una gran influencia en los Estados Unidos, pero también alrededor del mundo. La revista LatinTRENDS.com también está contribuyendo a este fin.

My first business cards have arrived! They are so cool! I ordered them from MOO, a website I discovered after they gave me a perk discount because of my Klout Score. 

I wanted a simple design to match my blog's new layout and colors, so I choose this one in which you can use 5 different pictures to obtain 5 different cards in your 50 cards package. 

The paper quality and caliber is way better than I expected, since I chose only the basic features. 

And they top it all by sending me that cute card saying that I have "cool" hair. That's a beautiful detail of good customer service.

¡Mis primeras tarjetas de presentación han llegado! ¡Están muy chulas! Las ordené de MOO, un site que descubrí luego que me dieran un premio de descuento por mi score en Klout. 

Quería un diseño simple que combinara con el nuevo diseño y colores de mi blog, así que escogí éste, en el que puedes usar 5 fotos para obtener 5 tarjetas diferentes en tu paquete de 50.

La calidad y el calibre del papel resultaron mucho mejor de lo que me esperaba, ya que escogí sólo las opciones básicas. 

Y me impresionaron aún más enviándome una linda tarjeta que dice que mi cabello es "cool". Eso es un hermoso detalle de buen servicio al cliente. 

También pueden ordenar otro tipo de tarjetas y otras cosas como postales, papelería, stickers y más.

Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream and L'Oreal Ever Curl Sulfate Free Hydracharge Conditioner

I am lucky to have a very fast hair growth speed. Since my first "big cut", I've cut it 4 times already, because I keep the ritual of cutting the ends (sometimes a bit more), every three months. 

Right now, I'm facing a very uncomfortable length. It doesn't look that cute when I wear it loose by the second day after washing it, but fortunately I have started experiencing with some new hairstyles to keep it under control. 

The weirdest thing is that more than one person around campus have approached me and asked me if my hair is real and if this is my natural hair. Folks, it is! I'm not sure if they love it or hate it, -most say they love it-, but as I stated in a previous post, I keep experimenting different things with it as it grows. 

This season I've discover a couple products that I've incorporated into my routine. And it's been a month already since I started using them, thus I can share the experience with you now. 

1. L'Oreal Ever Curl Sulfate Free Hydracharge Conditioner (and a million more names on the bottle)

I was running out of my previous TRESemmé Curl Hydration Conditioner, so it was time to try a new one. As you can see, I don't struggle that much, I take things right out from the shelves of Walmart and I'm very price sensitive at this point of my life. 

This L'Oreal one looked appealing, since is Sulfate-free, what every curl specialist recommends, so I bought it. 

I haven’t been using it at its fullest yet. I feel that is not very effective to detangle my type of curl. Thus what I’ve been doing is detangling my hair with my remaining previous conditioner, then I rinse it totally, and apply the L’Oreal Ever Curl and let it act while I shower. Then I rinse it but not totally. The effect I get is more defined curls and a very shiny look.

2. Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream.

Cantu products are becoming very popular around here. I don’t know if you can find them in regular stores in Dominican Republic already. I hope you do.

All their products are specially made for natural hair. My roommate has been using their shampoo and conditioner, and she loves them. I decided to give them a try starting with this curl activator cream, which is some sort of a leave-in.

I really like it. What I like the most is the real cream texture, opposed to the gel-cream ones that I've tried previously. Which were not bad for the purpose of styling, but I like to play a lot with the curls around my neck and I like to feel them soft instead of too fixed. This is perfect for that.

The products delivers its promise of “frizz free, smooth, bouncy curls”. And I get a lot of compliments when I wear it.

There you go girls. I hope you try them out and they work for you as they work for me!

Tengo la suerte de que mi cabello crece bastante rápido. Desde mi “gran corte”, me lo he vuelto a cortar 4 veces porque mantengo el ritual de cortar las puntas (a veces un poco más) cada tres meses.

Ahora mismo me enfrento a un largo muy incómodo. No se ve tan bonito cuando lo llevo suelto después del segundo día de haberlo lavado, pero afortunadamente he podido empezar a experimentar con peinados para mantenerlo bajo control.

Lo más raro es que más de una persona en el campus se me ha acercado para preguntarme si mi cabello es real y si éste es mi cabello natural. Amigas, ¡lo es! No estoy segura si lo aman o lo odian, -la mayoría dice que le encanta-, pero como dije en un post previo, estoy experimentando cosas diferentes a medida que crece.

Esta temporada, descubrí un par de productos que he incorporado a mi rutina. Ya ha pasado un mes desde que empecé a usarlos, así que puedo compartir la experiencia con ustedes ahora.

1. L'Oreal Ever Curl Sulfate Free Hydracharge Conditioner (and a million more names on the bottle)

Se me estaba acabando mi acondicionador anterior, TRESemmé Curl Hydration Conditioner, así que era tiempo de probar uno nuevo. Como pueden notar, no me estreso mucho, pruebo las cosas según las voy encontrando en los estantes de Walmart y estoy en un punto de mi vida en el que soy una consumidora sensible a los precios.

Este de L’Oreal se veía interesante, dado que es libre de Sulfato, algo que todas las especialistas en rizos recomiendan. Así que lo compré.

Todavía no lo he estado usando en su totalidad. Siento que no es muy efectivo para desenredar mi tipo de rizo. Así que lo que he estado haciendo es desenredar mi cabello con lo que me queda de mi acondicionador anterior, lo enjuago totalmente, y luego aplico el L’Oreal Ever Curl y lo dejo actuar mientras me baño. Luego lo enjuago pero no del todo. El efecto que obtengo son rizos más definidos y un look muy brillante.

2. Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream.

Los productos de Cantu se están volviendo muy populares por aquí. No sé si pueden ya se pueden encontrar en tiendas regulares en República Dominicana. Espero que sí.

Todos sus productos están especialmente hechos para cabello natural. Mi compañera de habitación ha estado usando el champú y el acondicionador de esta línea, y le encantan. Yo decidí comenzar con este activador de rizos en crema, que es una especie de leave-in.

Me gusta mucho. Y lo que más me gusta es precisamente la textura en crema, contrario a otros productos que había tratado anteriormente con textura crema-gel. No son malos para el propósito de fijar el cabello, pero me gusta mucho jugar con los rizos alrededor de mi cuello y me gusta que se sientan suaves en lugar de muy tiesos. Este producto es perfecto para obtener ese feeling.

Además cumple su promesa de darte “rizos elásticos, hidratados y libres de frizz”. También recibo muchos piropos cuando lo uso.

Ahí los tienen, espero tengan un chance de probarlos y que les funcionen también como me han funcionado a mí.

My friend Sella asked me about it yesterday morning: Wow! Did you see the Polo runway in nyfw? It was awesome! Then I had to look it up, and fortunately, I've got my sources. 

Ralph Lauren took his runway out of the runway to present the Spring 2015 collection of its ready-to-wear brand, Polo. The date was at Central Park, where fashion personalities, journalists and socialites, had the opportunity to witness a new era in fashion, one where building a cardboard scenery will no longer be needed. 

The show was presented as a 4D hologram, where models would come through matching their walk and style with the vision of different cities like Paris and New York. It was definitely breathtaking for many people who were also gathered to celebrate the opening of the new Ralph Lauren's flagship store in Fifth Avenue. 

If you still don't get the idea, here's a video that will take you to the front seat, or should I say the front stand of the show. 

And here are some of the celebrities that enjoyed the party, because there's no good fashion event without an after party!

Mi amigo Sella me lo preguntó ayer en la mañana: "Wow, ¿viste lo de Polo en el fashion week? ¡Aperísimo! Entonces lo tuve que buscar y, afortunadamente, tengo mis fuentes. 

Ralph Lauren llevó su pasarela fuera de la pasarela para presentar la colección Primavera 2015 de su marca ready-to-wear, Polo. La cita fue en Central Park, donde personalidades de la moda, periodistas y socialités, tuvieron la oportunidad de presenciar una nueva era en la industria, una donde los escenarios de cartón ya no serán necesarios. 

El show fue presentado en forma de un holograma 4D, donde las modelos surgían mezclando su estilo y caminar con la visión de diferentes ciudades como Paris y Nueva York. Fue definitivamente impresionante para muchos que también estuvieron presentes para celebrar la apertura de la nueva tienda insignia de Ralph Lauren en la 5ta Avenida. 

Si todavía no entienden de lo que estoy hablando, pueden ver el video más arriba y sentirse como en primera fila. 

También comparto fotos de algunas celebridades que disfrutaron de la fiesta, porque después de todo ¡no hay ningún buen evento de moda sin un after party!

Se suponía que esto debí compartirlo hace una semana, pero es muy difícil elegir citas favoritas de la Biblia. Lo mejor de la palabra es que el Espíritu Santo las guarda en tu corazón y las trae a la mente cuando es necesario, en el tiempo de la alegría, la angustia, la prueba, la duda, el triunfo, la tristeza… Siempre hay una palabra adecuada.

Así que para mí #biblechallenge, como un reto de mi hermanita Cecilia, estás son las citas que más me resuenan constantemente:

“Por ti madrugo Dios mío, para contemplar tu fuerza y tu gloria” o “Oh, Dios, tú eres mi Dios, por ti madrugo” (Salmo 62, 2). (Porque madrugar nunca es fácil para mí, pero siempre veo los frutos).

El salmo 50 completo, pero en especial: “Señor crea en mí un corazón puro, renuévame por dentro con Espíritu firme. No me arrojess lejos de tu rostro, no me quites tu santo Espíritu”. (Porque la lucha para no es sencilla y hace falta mucho Don de Fortaleza).

-El salmo 32, en especial: “El proyecto del Señor subsiste por siempre. Dichosa la nación cuyo Dios es el Señor, el pueblo que él se escogió como heredad. Que tu misericordia, Señor, venga sobre nosotros como lo esperamos de ti”. (Porque me hace sentir confiada en su palabra).

“Señor, tú nos darás las paz, porque todas nuestras empresas nos las realizas tú” (Is 26,12) y “Al justo todo lo que emprende le sale bien” (un dogma que se extrae del Salmo 1: “Todo lo que emprende prospera) (Cuando siento mucha presión de trabajo o miedo de asumir un nuevo reto).

Salmo 117: “Es el Señor quien lo ha hecho, ha sido un milagro patente. Este es el día en que actuó el Señor, sea nuestra alegría y nuestro gozo” (Porque experimentar un milagro o un detalle inesperado de parte de Dios, por más pequeño que sea, da una inmensa alegría).

Salmo 15: “(1) Protégeme, Dios mío, que me refugio en ti… (7-8) Bendigo al Señor que me aconseja, hasta de noche instruye mi corazón, tengo siempre delante de mí al Señor, si está a mi derecha no vacilaré… (11) Me enseñarás el camino de la vida….

Is 38, 10-14. 17-20: Porque me recuerda una eucaristía en la que el Padre Catalino lo recitó de memoria completito y me recuerda siempre el privilegio que he tenido de conocer sacerdotes y religiosas con verdadera vocación santa, que dan la vida y que necesitan que rece por ellos.

Del salmo 83: “Mejor es un día en tus atrios que mil fuera de ellos. Porque estar en el umbral de tu casa es siempre mejor que habitar en los palacios”. (Porque en ningún sitio he experimentado más alegría que en la Iglesia).

Job 1, 21; 2, 10: “Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre y desnudo volveré a él. El Señor me lo dio, el Señor me lo quitó, bendito sea el nombre del Señor. Si aceptamos de Dios los bienes, ¿no vamos a aceptar los males? (Porque hasta el más dichoso puede perder la fe ante una pérdida si se concentra sólo en lo que ha perdido y no en el privilegio de lo que por un tiempo se le ha concedido).

Lc 1, 26-38: La conversación entre María y el ángel Gabriel: “He aquí la esclava del Señor, hágase en mí según tu palabra” / “Porque nada es imposible para Dios”. (Porque en quien tiene el corazón dispuesto, Dios hace cosas imposibles).

Éxodo 20, 12: “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, para que tengas una larga vida en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, te da”. (Porque es un mandamiento valiosísimo)

“Lo que habéis recibido gratis, dadlo gratis (Mateo 10,8)”. Porque me ayuda a entender que nadie puede dar lo que no tiene y a justificar al otro. Si alguien no ha recibido amor en su vida, no podrá dar amor. Quien no ha recibido respeto, no podrá respetar. Pero si yo he recibido en abundancia, como cristiana, tengo que dar de lo que tengo”.

“Dónde estén dos o tres reunidos en mi nombre, ahí estaré yo en medio de ellos” (Mateo 18,20). Porque es el gran misterio de la presencia de Cristo en los hermanos de comunidad y en la Iglesia, y yo lo he experimentado.

Fashion Week Comfort!

Last Wednesday I went down to Lincoln Center to cover Desigual fashion show in New York Fashion Week for Pandora. I'll make a few more posts about it later, but right now I'm in class (yes, I'm posting from class even though I shouldn't), but I just wanted to share my outfit since some people asked me on Instagram. 

Since I went to make pictures and I didn't know were I would be standing, I chose to dress comfy -ok, who am I fooling, comfy is always my first choice. So this is what I wore.

I’ll be Latin Trending!

Now that I’ve finished getting everything ready, I can’t wait to let you know that tomorrow, or should I better say tonight since it’s already Tuesday, I’ll be on the red carpet of Latin Trends End of Summer Party!

I’ll be working as a volunteer for the PR team of Azúcar Agency. I like to get involved in things that leads me to more learning and experience, and of course this is going to be so much fun!

The magazine throws this party every year and is “invitation only”. This time it will be held at Stage48, in Midtown and will be co-hosted by The Gentleman of Salsa, Gilberto Santa Rosa. Many other celebrities from the latin community will be attending as well.

I’m so excited about the whole thing, working on a big red carpet from the PR side instead of the journalist side and danciiiiiiiinnngggg with one of my favorite salsa artists!!! Gosh I haven’t had a truly good dancing night since I moved here!

I won’t be able to post about it so soon –this week I start classes-, but meanwhile you can watch last year’s video here.

Ahora que terminé de preparar todo, no puedo esperar para contarles que mañana, o mejor dicho hoy que ya es martes, estaré en la alfombra roja del Latin Trends End of Summer Party.

Trabajaré como voluntaria junto al equipo de Relaciones Públicas de Azúcar Agency. Me gusta involucrarme en cosas que me permitan aprender y obtener más experiencia y, por supuesto, ¡esto será muy divertido!

La revista realiza esta fiesta cada año, sólo por invitación. Esta vez tendrá lugar en Stage 48, en Midtown y será co presentada por El Caballero de la Salsa, Gilberto Santa Rosa. Muchas otras celebridades de la comunidad latina también estarán presentes.

Estoy muy entusiasmada por todo, por la oportunidad de trabajar en una alfombra roja desde el punto de vista de las relaciones públicas y no desde el lado de la prensa y ¡por bailarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr con uno de mis salseros favoritos! ¡Dios no he tenido una buena noche de baile desde que me mudé aquí!

No tendré tiempo de postear sobre la fiesta muy pronto –esta semana empiezo clases-, pero mientras pueden ver el video de la fiesta del año pasado.
